John,
Over the last year, Congress has made historic progress on key issues for America’s veterans – from expanding VA health care eligibility to increasing cost-of-living adjustments for disabled veterans.
As we look ahead to the new year, my office is committed to helping San Antonio veterans connect with local programs and services. On Saturday, December 10 from 10 AM – 1 PM, I’m hosting a Veterans Resource Fair at Our Lady of the Lake University’s Chapel Auditorium (411 S.W. 24th Street, San Antonio, Texas) for veterans and their families to learn about free and low-cost assistance with housing, employment, mental health care, and more.
During the Resource Fair, local organizations will be available to share information about the services they provide. There will also be two information sessions focused on specific areas of interest:
SESSION #1: THE VA CLAIMS PROCESS (11 AM)
Since 2013, my office has helped San Antonio veterans get more than $12 million in benefits from the VA. During this session, staff from the Bexar County Veterans Office will provide an overview of the VA benefit application and appeals process.
SESSION #2: THE HONORING OUR PACT ACT (12 PM)
Earlier this year, I voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act, the largest expansion of veterans’ benefits in more than 30 years. The Honoring Our PACT Act improves VA health care and benefits for more than five million veterans who were exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxins during their service. During this session, staff from the Bexar County Veterans Office will provide an overview of the Honoring Our PACT Act and how veterans can apply for the benefits available under this new law.
If you have questions about your VA benefits or want to learn about new services for San Antonio veterans, please stop by. For questions, call 210-348-8216.
Thank you,
Joaquin Castro Member of Congress
