Warm spaces

Warm spaces [ [link removed] ]

The temperature has really fallen today ? and with the cold snap predicted to last well into next week, it?s important that we do all we can to keep warm this winter.

I know that rising energy prices will be a growing concern for many Nottingham residents, but we should all take steps to stay warm and well:

* Heat your home to a temperature that's comfortable for you. If you can, this should be at least 18?C in the rooms that you regularly use, such as your living room and bedroom
* Wear multiple layers of clothes and have regular hot drinks
* Try to move about as much as you can
* Wrap up in warm clothes when out of doors

Older people and those with health conditions are particularly vulnerable to the cold weather, so do please check-in on friends, family and neighbours. I hope we can all do our bit to look out for each this winter.

At the council, we are working with partners, including community and voluntary organisations, to open up buildings as warm spaces for residents to access during the winter months. Some of these spaces are at the heart of our community and some will be offering refreshments, activities and advice. These warm spaces are a great way to meet other people and stay warm.?

Council kitchens putting food destined for the bin to good use

kitchens

We are pleased to be working in partnership with FareShare Midlands [ [link removed] ] who are sharing our Loxley House kitchen with our catering service to prepare meals for those in need from food that would otherwise be wasted.

It is good to see the meals produced making a difference to local people who use food banks, community cafes and other charitable groups. You can see an excellent report on this project [ [link removed] ] BBC East Midlands Today broadcast this week.

So far:

* 1,200 meals per week are being cooked and frozen for future delivery
* 19 Nottingham charitable groups have registered to receive meals
* 600+ meals are being delivered each week.

Nottingham City Council is seeking views on plans to make significant changes to a roundabout on Maid Marian Way. The work will make journeys safer and easier for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists and will create new green spaces for our city.

The scheme is focused on the northern end of the road and will also include changes to the junction with Mount Street. The survey closes on Sunday 18 December.

Struggling to pay bills? Help is at hand

Struggling to pay your bills? [ [link removed] ]

With energy prices and household costs increasing, it is really common for people to avoid facing up to debt problems but leaving debt to mount up will only make it worse. If you?re struggling to pay your bills, it?s important to make sure you pay the most important ones first.? There are more serious consequences of not paying certain bills than there are for others.
