Today’s the day! We’re taking the fight to Capitol Hill. As weeks go by without action, we have to let our Senators know that they must deliver on their promises and make sure our community is safe from torture. Let’s speak up, make some noise, and get this ban included in the omnibus bill! Meet with your elected officials TODAY!
RSVP at our Facebook event and let us know how your visit goes. If you’re looking for Hill visit tips and tricks, we held a training webinar which you can find here. We also have a guide to virtual meetings!
If you haven’t scheduled a meeting, call the office or try to schedule a meeting now. It’s okay if you don’t meet with them today. What matters is meeting with them at all! These face-to-face meetings are the most powerful way to make your voice heard. It’s time to pull out all the stops and #StopTheShock.
When you’re done, tweet your members of Congress to thank them for the meeting with them or their staff, including a photo if you have one. This strengthens your relationship because you’ll have given public gratitude for their availability. Doing so publicly also reminds them that they are accountable to follow up on the commitments they made to you, or to get more information on questions they said they wanted answers to. Remember to Mention (@) your members of Congress and include the hashtag #StopTheShock.
Stay in touch by sending a follow up email to everyone you meet with. You can do this with our letter to leave behind! You can also follow up to check in about the status of the request you made during your meeting.
You have the power to protect the safety of all people with disabilities in our community by meeting with your elected officials. Join us to use it today!
