John,
Negotiations have already begun for a major end-of-the-year tax package. This is a huge opportunity for us to create real change for families and once again get a much needed expansion of the Child Tax Credit!
Today, we’re joining our partners at MomsRising for a Child Tax Credit Call-in Day to uplift how the CTC is a critical lifeline to families and demand Congress pass an expansion of the CTC by the end of the year. Please help today by calling your Senators at 1-888-496-4842.
In 2021, as a part of the American Rescue Plan, millions of U.S. families received monthly Child Tax Credit payments of between $250 and $300 per child. These payments cut childhood poverty by over 40% and reached nearly 40 million families with 65 million children, allowing them to afford basic necessities like food, winter coats, after-school enrichment programs and even being able to save for their kids’ college education.
With inflation skyrocketing and wages remaining stagnant, it’s imperative that Congress act in the best interest of children and their families by reinstating the expanded Child Tax Credit now, before a divided Congress returns in January and we’re trapped in partisan gridlock.
Call your Senators today at 1-888-496-4842 and tell them to fight for children and families by bringing back the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit!
Calling is easy -- and it’s very important.
We’ve provided a suggested call script below to help with your call.
Suggested call script:
“Hello, my name is _______ and I live in ___________. I urge Senator _______ to support the expanded Child Tax Credit before the end of the year. This policy was a lifeline to tens of millions of families last year and cut child poverty by over 40%.
-
91% of low-income families used their monthly expanded Child Tax Credit checks to cover the cost of basic necessities like housing, food, utilities, and clothing to ensure their children have healthier, more stable environments.
-
The Child Tax Credit expansion cut Black child poverty by 54%!
-
If Congress does not act, 19 million children in the lowest-income families will not receive some or all of the current CTC.
-
It’s estimated that the Child Tax Credit expansion boosted consumer spending by $27 billion, generated $1.9 billion in revenues from state and local sales taxes, and supported the equivalent of over 500,000 full time jobs.
Please share my thoughts with the Senator and urge them to pass the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit for children and their families this year. Thank you.”
Child poverty is a policy decision, not an inevitability. This investment in our nations’ children will have positive effects for generations to come. Now let’s get it done!
Thank you,
