John -- as Greenpeace's Fundraising Director, it’s my job to crunch the numbers and take stock of our income for the year ahead. And right now, it’s time to act.

With the UK economy taking a turn for the worse, I know many of us are feeling the squeeze. At Greenpeace, we’re seeing the impact of this crisis too. Sadly, 2,352 people have had to cancel their regular gifts to us over the last month. And a devalued Pound means donations aren’t going as far as they used to.

This economic uncertainty leaves the environment even more vulnerable to being exploited in the hunt for “cheap” resources. And with the government already gutting environmental protections, the last thing we want to do is slow down.

We’re determined to keep standing up for our planet. I’ve worked out that we need 1,649 people to start up a monthly gift to plug our funding gaps. Today, could you take action to help reach this goal?

John -- I know times are tough. But if you are able to give regularly, your support is more needed than ever before. Will you help us keep pushing for a brighter, greener future?

If we don’t take action now, this shortfall could really impact our work. We might have to scale back campaigns, or cancel our next scientific expedition. That’s the last thing I’d want to see happen.

Monthly gifts help make sure nothing stops us from taking bold action when we most need to. With our current political landscape in turmoil, we must be ready to hold the government accountable at any moment.

I'm so proud that we don't take corporate or government donations and can stay completely independent. But that means we rely on people like you to fund every petition launched, every bold action, and every on-the-ground investigation.

John -- we have big plans for 2023 – but we urgently need your help to achieve them. Will you commit to a monthly gift today, so we can keep campaigning to defend nature?

The truth is, the UK’s dependence on fossil fuels has played a big part in our soaring energy bills. It’s frustrating to think that if the government had invested more in renewable energy and home insulation, we wouldn’t be in such a mess in the first place.

We won’t stop holding the government accountable. Together, we can help protect our precious natural world, and secure the green future we deserve.

Deborah McLean,

Interim Fundraising Director, Greenpeace

P.S. If you aren’t able to give today, I completely understand. You can still help us out by forwarding to someone you know - is there someone you can think of who might be interested in supporting us? Take 30 seconds to forward this email now.

We don't accept any money from companies or governments so we can be independent and challenge anyone who threatens the planet or peace. To help us keep fighting climate change, defending our oceans and protecting ancient forests, you can become a monthly supporter today. Thank you.
