Ferguson earned $595 million in its fiscal first quarter, up 6.3% from $560 million a year ago, on net sales of $7.93 billion, up 16.6% from $6.8 billion. The plumbing and heating distributor remains "well-positioned with balanced exposure to both residential and nonresidential end markets and an agile business model," CEO Kevin Murphy said.

Amazon has taken a giant step forward in robotics with its Sparrow, Robin, Cardinal and Proteus technologies that can hand-pick smaller items, sort packages and push heavy carts, and Amazon Robotics Chief Technologist Tye Brady expects the tools to reduce rates of injury, mitigate labor challenges and enhance productivity. Brady says the scale of Amazon's robotics efforts "is unlike anything that's been done in human history," and he adds that employees whose roles are replaced by robots will be given other jobs within Amazon.
