John, thank you.
Polls have closed in Georgia, and I want to thank every Common Cause member for your support in this extended election cycle.
Whether you chipped in to sponsor a volunteer, joined our Election Protection Action Team, or signed a petition pushing legislators to expand voter access, you have been a critical part of our work helping protect voters across the country.
I wanted to share these updates about Georgia voting today from our Election Protection volunteers on the ground.
Our Action Team has been active throughout this important runoff election – helping voters get critical information about the voting process from the start of early voting right up to the minute polls closed.
We were able to place teams of volunteers on the ground in Georgia – which translates to tens of thousands of voters helped through today and early voting.
Because of our robust network of Election Protection volunteers, we learned voters experienced issues with the Georgia Secretary of State website throughout the day. We picked up on this in the morning, and immediately began directing voters to a voter information hub run by our partners at the League of Women Voters.
Our team found and countered misinformation online, and when minor voting machine issues arose, we were able to address them quickly, push to extend voting hours at impacted polling locations, and ensure voters could still securely cast a ballot.
Meanwhile, legal volunteers monitored the Election Protection Hotline to answer voters’ questions, including absentee voters who didn’t receive their ballots in time, voters who needed to cast provisional ballots, and others who had questions about how to make their vote count.
The resilience of Georgia voters is inspiring – and I’m grateful to the election officials on the ground who worked with our team to resolve issues as they came up.
I’m incredibly grateful to Common Cause members like you. Your support enabled us to build out an Election Protection Action team and strategy for Georgia that made today go as smoothly as possible for voters – just weeks after our biggest ever midterm election push.
Thank you for all you do. We truly could not do this without you, and I’m so glad to have you with us.
In common cause,
Marilyn Carpinteyro, Vice President of Programs and Strategy
