Dear friend,
I hope that this email finds you well.
I am very proud of the outstanding Muslim American voter turnout in the Georgia runoff elections. We knew that these elections were critical in ensuring that we have a majority in the Senate. Our community did not disappoint in fulfilling our civic duty to ensure that our voices were heard.
We are thrilled to see Sen. Raphael Warnock's victory in Georgia, securing a Democratic majority in the Senate. The Muslim American community came together to help cement this win. Senator Warnock's stances on health care, common sense gun reform, and expanding voting rights represent just a few key issues Americans need in this upcoming session. We are excited to work with the upcoming Congressional session to support issues that are important to American communities.
Ahead of this election, Emgage co-hosted a Muslim Get Out The Vote virtual rally on Sunday. I’m pleased to share that it was a great success. We heard from experts, politicians, and leaders from Georgia and around the country who shared advice, stories, and recommendations to all attendees.
If you missed the event, be sure to watch it on our YouTube channel here.
Some highlights from the event include:
"Our destination is making sure our children are always unapologetic and never afraid to be Muslim." - Rep. Rashida Tlaib
“Yes, it’s important to talk about what’s happening in Yemen. Yes it’s important to talk about what’s happening to Uyghur Muslims. Yes it’s important to talk about what’s happening in Tigray, in East Africa.
But it’s also important to have commitment to what’s happening in the United States… and we do that through forums like these, to show that our numbers are increasing in American political processes.”
- US Representative André Carson
"Even if you don't care about politics, politics cares about you."
- GA State Representative Ruwa Romman
"If we want to be here, we have to be here. We have to be active in all aspects of America, in supporting voting registration, the laws of voting, and of participating in society."
- Imam Nadim Ali
Many thanks to all speakers and partners, including: Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep.
