For too long, people of color, women, and LGBTQ+ folks have been pushed to the side and excluded from governing bodies like Congress. That’s why, as the highest-ranking Black woman and woman of color in Congressional Leadership in either chamber, Barbara is fighting every day to make Congress a more diverse, inclusive space for folks of every background.

And this year, we saw folks break barriers across the country. Robert Garcia in CA-42 will become the first LGBTQ+ immigrant member of Congress, Summer Lee in PA-12 will become the first Black Congresswoman from Pennsylvania, and Maxwell Frost in FL-10 will become the first Gen Z member of Congress after years of activism.

Barbara looks forward to welcoming these progressive allies to stand with her in the fight to end mass incarceration, expand access to affordable healthcare and housing, and raise the minimum wage to build a more just and equitable future for all.
