Washington, D.C. — OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates congratulates U.S. Congressman Ted Lieu on his historic election to Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. Congressman Lieu currently serves as Whip in the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, and is the first Asian American to be elected to a House leadership position. Congressman Lieu was a 2022 Honoree for Outstanding Achievement at OCA’s National Convention in Las Vegas.
“It is encouraging to see an Asian American elected to be a House leader – that is an example of breaking the glass ceiling,” said OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates National President Linda Ng.
OCA also congratulates Duy Nguyen, OCA community leader, former OCA National Executive Council member, and former OCA National Secretary, who became the first Asian and Vietnamese American elected to the Nevada State Assembly.
“Duy’s victory is a testament to the importance of community support and solidarity to increase representation in government,” said OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocate Executive Director Thu Nguyen. “We congratulate him and look forward to the continued pipeline of AAPI leaders in Nevada.”
In the aftermath of the 2022 election, OCA applauds the growing number of APAs who serve in the halls of Congress on both sides of the aisle.
