The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has transformed lives, communities and local economies. But never-ending, cruel and senseless court challenges have left DACA hanging by a thread with the future of DACA recipients — and some 90,000 DACA-eligible youth with stalled initial DACA requests — hanging in the balance.

The end of DACA will dramatically and negatively impact families, communities and the economy. Losing DACA will either mean a sudden loss of status for all Dreamers, or, at best, that an average of 1,000 dreamers will lose their jobs each business day – in essential jobs in labor market sectors already experiencing shortages, such as healthcare, education, service industries, food production and more.

As an organization that supports and fights alongside domestic workers for dignity and respect in the workplace – many of whom are immigrant women of color, Dreamers, and workers whose children are Dreamers – we are calling on Congress to pass permanent protections to end this ongoing nightmare for undocumented immigrants in our country.

DACA has helped hundreds of thousands of young people finish school, apply for a work permit, and be protected from detention and deportation. And so many DACA recipients are essential workers who contribute to our society and economy because it’s the only home they have ever known.

DACA by the numbers:

595,000: the current number of DACA beneficiaries
300,000: the number of DACA recipients who are parents
93: Percentage of of DACA recipients over the age of 25 that are currently employed
200,000: Number of DACA recipients that served as essential workers during the pandemic
56,000: Number of DACA recipients that are homeowners, making over $560 million in combined mortgage payments
$5.6 billion: Annual federal tax contribution of DACA households
$3.1 billion: Annual state and local tax contribution of DACA households
22,000: Jobs lost each month if DACA ends

DACA recipients are our family, friends, coworkers and neighbors that contribute greatly to our economy and local communities. They deserve our support and should not be forced to live in a constant state of terror over deportation or detention. The only path forward is for Congress to pass legislation THIS YEAR that protects DACA recipients.
