Meetings in the Office Kansas Housing Association National Sorghum Producers Scoular Farm Journal Foundation Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health   Mann.House.Gov In the Office Hunger as a Weapon Resolution Last week, the House passed a resolution I co-led and co-introduced to condemn hunger as a weapon of war. Global conflict often results in food insecurity, market disruption, and the destruction of livestock and crops. In no uncertain terms, this resolution condemns the use of hunger and starvation as weapons of war. It was an honor to help carry this bipartisan bill across the finish line. Meetings Kansas Catholic Conference It was a pleasure visiting with Chuck Weber, the Executive Director of the Kansas Catholic Conference, which has served as a voice for the Catholic Church in Kansas on matters of public policy since its founding in 1967. Jobs for America's Graduates - Kansas (JAG-K) Jobs for America's Graduates - Kansas (JAG-K) is a non-profit organization that partners with public schools to offer career exploration and the opportunity to build job skills to help students succeed after high school. JAG-K has 104 model programs in 49 school districts throughout the state. Tele-Town Hall Recap Thank you for joining me last Thursday for the tele-town hall. I enjoyed talking with you about issues that are important to you. During the town hall, I asked a few poll questions to see how people felt about certain issues. Here were the results: 43% of the people who took the survey believe the number one priority Congress should focus on is unleashing American energy independence. 96% percent said that they are concerned about the rising costs of utilities this winter. Kansans are rightfully concerned with President Biden’s war on American energy. I will continue to fight to remove overreaching government restrictions on domestic energy producers to make America energy independent again. We need an "all of the above" energy strategy that prioritizes American energy independence, embraces liquid fuels and renewable energy, and doesn't allow Washington to pick winners and losers. Legislation requiring Congressional Approval to add species to Endangered Species List The Biden Administration's listing of the Northern Distinct Population Segment of the lesser prairie-chicken as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) is more than federal overreach. It is a proxy war on American agriculture and energy sectors that are vital to our economy. Last week, I introduced legislation to amend the ESA to require congressional approval before an Administration adds any species to the endangered species list. Members of Congress should have a say in how the listing of a particular species would impact people living and working in the communities they represent. Watch my press conference remarks about the Biden Administration's listing of the lesser prairie-chicken at the Kansas Livestock Association Conference last Friday: 1 Year Anniversary of the Congressional FFA Caucus One year ago, on December 2, 2021, I led my colleagues in launching the inaugural Congressional FFA Caucus. The FFA Caucus was established to raise awareness about FFA and the next generation of leaders who will feed, fuel, and clothe the world. In the past year, we’ve met with thousands of FFA members and introduced legislation recognizing the great work that FFA is doing to equip our future agricultural leaders. I can’t wait to watch the relationship between Congress and FFA develop in the years to come. Click here to watch my full remarks on the Congressional FFA Caucus' 1 Year Anniversary.   Mann.House.Gov In the District Kansas Farm Bureau 104th Annual Meeting I participated in the Kansas Farm Bureau’s 104th annual meeting this weekend. It was particularly special to help honor retiring President Rich Felts for his years of service to the organization. It is always great catching up with our state's agricultural leaders. Much of our conversation was around the 2023 Farm Bill. As Kansas Farm Bureau knows well, the Farm Bill is critical to America's future. I am excited to learn from their members and gather their input as we near the reauthorization of the Farm Bill.  Thank you, Farm Bureau, for the invitation to participate, and congratulations again to Rich. Remembering Senator Bob Dole December 5th marks one year since we lost an American hero, a selfless public servant, and a true Kansan. Senator Bob Dole lived his life with what he called "the Kansas approach," the markers of which he identified as honesty, hard work, respect for your roots, common sense, service, simplicity, and genuine, thoughtful care. Senator Dole spoke about his "Kansas approach" with me just a few weeks before he passed away. Even then, he was a thoughtful energetic champion for our nation and our way of life in rural Kansas. He truly embodied what it means to be a Kansan and to live out our core values of faith, family, and freedom. Senator Bob Dole leaves behind a lasting legacy of service and sacrifice to which all Americans can aspire. In his memory, Senator Elizabeth Dole has launched the inaugural Bob Dole Day of Service Pledge. I can think of no better way to remember and honor this great Kansan.
