Dear John,

Good public policies benefit everyone. Health care and other necessities are too often out of reach for those who can’t afford them in Alabama, but better state policies can ensure everyone has the resources they need to survive. I believe you share our vision of a better Alabama, so you know how important state policy work is to improve the lives of people across the state. Will you give a gift to Arise before the end of the year to advance life-changing policies this year?

Members like you set Arise’s path by proposing and voting on our policy priorities, and we are working year-round to continue our forward momentum. Thanks to efforts from members like you, we saw a major step forward on affordable healthcare this year with Alabama’s extension of postpartum Medicaid coverage from just 60 days after birth to one full year. Debbie Smith, our new Cover Alabama campaign director, is optimistic that we can build on this progress now that we’re fresh off an election cycle:

“This is an opportunity. Governor Ivey just got reelected, and we have around 35 new state legislators. We need to be the first to educate our new legislators on the benefits of Medicaid expansion and how popular it is on both sides of the aisle. With sustained pressure from our membership and legislative support, I am hopeful that Governor Ivey will expand Medicaid and make Alabama a better place for everyone.”

We have come this far because of members like you speaking with one voice for Medicaid expansion. Together, we will keep up the drumbeat to finish the job and expand health care to more than 300,000 Alabamians. Will you join Arise today with a gift to engage our leaders to expand Medicaid?

Jennifer Harris, Health Policy Advocate

Members who are closest to our policy priorities remain our strongest voice and influence at the State House. Jennifer Harris, our health policy advocate, is preparing for the legislative session with this in mind. Jennifer works with a group of community advocates, and together they are planning an advocacy day to educate our leaders on how Medicaid expansion can address health disparities in Alabama:

“Hearing from members directly about the benefits of the improvements to our Medicaid system is powerful. Now that our lawmakers have the grueling task of running a campaign behind them, they can be attentive to hearing what’s best for the people who they represent.”

Will you donate to Arise today to amplify our grassroots influence at the State House?

Thank you for joining us with a gift at any level today.

In solidarity,

Clyde Jones, Arise Board Member
