Did you catch the big news, folks?
Last week, the Senate passed the Respect for Marriage Act, historic legislation to protect marriage equality across the nation. And it couldn’t have happened at a more critical time.
If you remember, in the same disastrous Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Justice Clarence Thomas suggested that the Court could revisit — and potentially overturn — its decision that guaranteed marriage equality in every state. That’s why my colleagues and I jumped into action to pass the Respect for Marriage Act to protect marriage equality.
Getting this bill across the finish line was no small feat, but thanks to persistence and hard work it finally passed the Senate – with bipartisan support!
Now, this bill goes back to the House for a vote, and it’s critical that we get it to President Biden’s desk before Republicans take control of the House in January.
Time is of the essence, folks — we must stand up to protect marriage equality and ensure that our fight for progress isn’t set back. So, will you add your name to our petition calling on the House to finish the job and pass the Respect for Marriage Act right away?
Thanks so much for making your voice heard.
