Dear John,

I’m reaching out today to honor the anniversary of the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery in 1865 and began our country’s long reckoning with racial injustice.

From the Reconstruction Era, to the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s, to the social justice protests during 2020, America’s journey to equality and prosperity for all of us, regardless of race, has been long and hard fought.

There is still so far to go for true equality, but I know that this country and the values it stands for are worth fighting for.

For country,

Chris Deluzio
