Buenas tardes,
Latin America and the Caribbean is the only region in the world in which the pregnancy rate for adolescents under 15 is rising. Countless young people living in this region have experienced forced pregnancies as a result of restrictive abortion laws.
That's where the Center for Reproductive Rights comes in. Our work to amend these laws is one of the reasons why a generous donor has offered to match every gift through the end of the year FOUR TIMES up to $250,000—to make 4X the impact on our work to dismantle these longstanding legal barriers. Please make a tax-deductible year-end gift today to protect reproductive rights around the world.
With your support, we can achieve justice, change laws, and create new policies to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, like we've done in Ecuador.
Together with our partner, the Ecuadorian Center for the Promotion and Action of Women CEPAM-Guayaquil, we filed a suit against the government of Ecuador on behalf of the mother and sister of Paola Guzmán Albarracín.
Paola was a fifteen-year-old Ecuadorian public-school student who died by suicide after suffering repeated sexual abuse by her school's vice-principal.
Thanks to your support, the court held Ecuador responsible for failing to protect Paola and the president of Ecuador delivered a public apology.
"Without them, we never would have been able to get here," said Paola's mother. "I would never make it alone."
With your support, team, that is what we at the Center are here to do.
We're fighting to hold governments accountable and protect adolescents like Paola across the region and the world who face sexual violence at school and have no access to sexual and reproductive health rights and services.
Your gift today will go 4X as far in supporting our work to guarantee access to sexual and reproductive health and rights across the world, including in areas with historically restrictive abortion laws like Latin America and the Caribbean.
Because of your support, the Paola Guzmán Albarracín Observatory was launched in October to ensure that all countries in the region guarantee access to comprehensive sexual education in accordance with international standards. Your gift today will go 4X as far in support of our work to ensure reproductive rights as human rights around the world.
In solidarity,
Catalina Martínez Coral
Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean
