Dear friend,
Resilience. It’s at the heart of Mercy Corps’ work.
A resilient community is able to cope, adapt, and thrive in the face of
shocks and stresses like conflict and natural disasters. We partner with
communities to develop strategies to cope and adapt to shocks and
stresses, and tackle the root causes of these challenges to foster a
thriving future.

In Nepal, Mercy Corps has helped farmers, including Sharda Devi Bohora
(above), develop disaster mitigation measures, such as building gabion
walls that prevent dangerous landslides.
As we enter the new year, we are committed to helping communities achieve
positive outcomes in four key areas:
[ [link removed] ][IMG] Food security: A growing global food crisis means hundreds of
millions of people are hungry, with many on the brink of famine.
From distributing cash so families can buy food, to helping
people grow their own reliable gardens, we deliver both
immediate aid and long-term solutions.
Â
[ [link removed] ][IMG] Water security: One in three people don’t have access to safe
drinking water. In communities lacking water today, our teams
are delivering emergency drinking water. And we’re helping
construct and strengthen management of water systems to ensure
clean water is available tomorrow.
Â
[ [link removed] ][IMG] Economic opportunity: For the first time in decades, extreme
poverty is on the rise. By offering skills training, small
business support, and access to new markets, we help people grow
and sustain their income, bringing stability to their families
and the communities around them.
Â
[ [link removed] ][IMG] Peacebuilding and good governance: Violent conflict is at a
30-year high. The causes are complex and interconnected — and so
are the solutions. Our programs work to address the root causes
of conflict to reduce and prevent violence, and strengthen the
pillars of long-term peace.
