Congressman Hank Johnson

John,

I’ve never missed a vote.

As my son Hank can tell you, I believe that we each have a responsibility to vote.

But above all, vote.

Yes, voting is a right. But it’s a right we can never take for granted, because there are those who will try to take that right from us if we don’t use it.

Those who don’t want people like me to vote — they never went away. They just got more devious. They got more nuanced. They got more careful about how they target their discrimination.

I’m 96 years old, and I make no excuses for myself when it comes to getting to the ballot box. So I’m asking you not to allow any excuses to creep into your thinking. Please, vote if you haven’t done so already. If you have a parent or grandparent, reach out and help them get to the polls today. Help make my vote, and the votes of those who came before us, truly matter.

Thank you,

Christine Callier
