Friend,
Last month, I attended the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference, where United Nations members reached a historic agreement to form a special “Loss and Damage” Fund.
This global disaster relief fund will support smaller, developing nations that face the worst impacts of climate change yet contribute the least to the climate crisis.
If you’ve seen photos of island nations ravaged by Hurricane Ian, or read about how nearly one-third of Pakistan was devastated due to extreme flooding, then I know you understand how vital this agreement is.
President Biden and the United States have made strong commitments, but as UN members spend the next year working out the details of the “Loss and Damage” Fund agreement, we need to be sure we keep our promises.
Especially since the United States — despite representing just 5% of the global population — is responsible for nearly 30% of all greenhouse gas emissions globally.
In 2009, wealthy nations like the United States committed to supporting a $100 billion dollar per year fund to help developing nations transition to clean, renewable energy. To date, that commitment has NEVER been fully funded.
Will you sign our petition to tell President Biden to keep our promises to developing nations most impacted by the global climate crisis? [link removed]
Friend, when we take the lead in the fight against climate change on the global stage, we set an example for the rest of the world.
Helping smaller, developing nations survive the climate crisis we helped create is a key step on the road to a just, sustainable future for all.
That’s why we need you to sign our petition today >> [link removed]
