** National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada Statement

On this day 33 years ago, 14 women studying at the École Polytechnique in Montreal were murdered; it was the second deadliest mass shooting in Canadian history. On December 6, we observe the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. This day takes place during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence that are marked around the world from November 25-December 10.

Canada’s Building Trades Unions stand with women and survivors, and we reaffirm our commitment to supporting women in the construction industry, by ensuring they have safe working environments and networks they can turn to when needed. Programs like the Office to Advance Women Apprentices ([link removed]) , Build Together ([link removed]) , and Tradeswomen Build Nations ([link removed]) create these networks.

Déclaration de la Journée nationale de commémoration et d'action contre la violence faite aux femmes au Canada

Il y a 33 ans, 14 femmes étudiant à l'École Polytechnique de Montréal ont été assassinées ; il s'agissait de la deuxième fusillade la plus meurtrière de l'histoire du Canada. Le 6 décembre, nous observons la Journée nationale de commémoration et d'action contre la violence faite aux femmes au Canada. Cette journée s'inscrit dans le cadre des 16 jours d'activisme contre la violence sexiste qui sont marqués dans le monde entier du 25 novembre au 10 décembre.

Les Syndicats des métiers de la construction du Canada sont aux côtés des femmes et des survivantes, et nous réaffirmons notre engagement à soutenir les femmes dans l'industrie des métiers de la construction, en veillant à ce qu'elles disposent d'environnements de travail sûrs et de réseaux vers lesquels elles peuvent se tourner en cas de besoin.
