** Gainey pledged to overhaul Pittsburgh’s bridges. His 2023 budget barely starts the process. ([link removed])

READ ([link removed])
After the Fern Hollow Bridge collapsed ([link removed]) in January, Mayor Ed Gainey quickly pledged that the city government would invest in its bridges, dozens of which are rated structurally deficient by state-licensed inspectors.

Bridge work is expensive, though, and requires prep work for design and public comment. Plus, there’s the city’s staggering number of bridges, more than 150.

These factors are clear in Gainey’s 2023 budget proposal. It includes a significant amount of money for bridge repairs, but most of it isn’t scheduled to be spent until 2025 or later.Read the story by Reporter Charlie Wolfson. ([link removed])
