Thanks to you, and the outcry of millions of Americans, Donald Trump appears to have stepped back from the brink of war with Iran. But, we cannot let up now.

Tomorrow, Congress is expected to vote on a War Powers Act resolution to reaffirm Congress’ sole authority to declare war—and protect us from the whims of an unhinged, unstable president.

Now is the time to show that we won’t let the impeached President Trump engulf our nation in yet another disastrous war.

Now is the time, because this moment is fragile:

• Trump already recklessly, needlessly provoked military conflict with Iran in Iraq just this past week.

• We know that he sows chaos every day and tries to weaponize people’s fear about one another.

• This is just the latest example of Trump abusing his military powers and betraying our Constitution.

• He’s going to be particularly on edge during the Senate’s upcoming impeachment process.

• His administration is already using this moment to spread Islamophobia and xenophobia, including endangering Iranian Americans through detentions and questioning at the border.

• In America and the Middle East, his and his administration’s statements continue to conflict with one another and confuse us and the rest of the world.

We must use this opportunity to show leaders in Congress and around the world that the American people do not want war.

We’ve learned our lessons from endless war, including in the Middle East. We must be united to say: We will not be led into another unnecessary war. We will not allow massive human suffering. We will not allow our neighbors here at home to be targeted by law enforcement in a time of dangerous rhetoric. We will not be divided.

We can prevent war. But, as with impeachment, we need everyone in the streets.
