John,
Last week, House Democrats voted on a new, history-making slate of leaders. I’m thrilled to congratulate my friend and colleague Hakeem Jeffries of New York, as the first African-American to serve as party leader in Congress.
I’m also proud to let you know that I was elected as Whip for the Congressional Black Caucus, the first person from the Pacific Northwest to serve in this role.
Together, Hakeem and I have brought our lived experiences and legislative expertise to fight for freedom, equality, and justice for all Americans.
With every election, we make more progress for our communities. In 2018, a record number of Black women turned out to vote. In 2020, we sent a record number of Black women to Congress and elected trailblazer Kamala Harris as Vice-President.
Join me in congratulating Rep. Hakeem Jeffries on making history as we usher in a new generation of Democratic leadership.
I will continue to advocate and deliver for South Sound families alongside our new Democratic leadership.
With gratitude,
Marilyn
