Good news, team: The Department of Education recently announced they are extending the pause of student loan payments until June 30, 2023!

President Biden’s student loan debt cancellation program marks a major first step towards making higher education more affordable and would provide immediate and significant economic relief to millions of Americans. But while we wait for the court to decide whether to let the cancellation proceed or not, this pause on payments is an important move in the meantime.

We are grateful for the Biden-Harris administration’s ongoing commitment to helping student loan borrowers. This plan is just one of many examples of Biden and fellow Democrats delivering crucial wins for everyday Americans and uplifting the most disadvantaged among us. 

It is our strong hope that the court affirms the legality of student loan debt cancellation. But regardless of their decision on Biden’s plan, we will continue fighting to make higher education more affordable and accessible and make our economy fairer for all Americans no matter what.
