1919

Our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, launched the Save the Children Fund to support children suffering from the impacts of World War I. From the very beginning, caring individuals like you have powered this mission.

1930s to 1940s

Our work in the United States began in rural Kentucky during the Great Depression. We provided children with clothes, toys, books and shoes and pioneered early education and school lunch programs that continue to this day. In Europe, we ensured that children displaced by World War II received much needed aid, including food, medicine, clothes and blankets.

1970

We established our lifeline sponsorship program, which allows supporters just like you to sponsor entire communities, ensuring that children and their families can have the resources they need.

2005

In response to the devastating tsunami in Indonesia, we provided crucial assistance to over 276,000 survivors.

2015

Save the Children provided over 2 million child refugees fleeing Syria with lifesaving care and support.

2019

Save the Children celebrated our centennial in 2019. Thanks to your support, we reached 134 million children in 120 countries and protected children in the aftermath of 113 emergencies.

Today

Our work won’t be finished until every single child’s rights and future are protected. Alongside partners like you, we continue to work around the clock to support children facing poverty, conflict, disaster and other hardships.
