Dear friend, Last week, I was honored to be elected as Caucus Leadership Representative, representing Democratic Members who’ve served five terms or less in Congress at the leadership table. I’m excited to get to work – and to be a voice for San Diego when the biggest decisions are made. The House also passed two of my bills – to rename the Rolando post office after former Congresswoman Susan Davis and to condemn the use of hunger as a weapon of war.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to run for Congress was that I didn’t see enough young women like me in government. That's why it’s such an honor to serve as the Caucus Leadership Representative in the 118th Congress, representing the Democratic Members who’ve served five terms or less at the Democratic House leadership table. I’ll be the youngest member of Democratic House leadership, and I’m grateful to be a part of changing the face of our government to better reflect our country. I’m excited for the opportunity to uplift the diversity of identity, ideas, and experience in our caucus and be an even bigger voice for San Diego.

Congressman Susan Davis served Rolando and our San Diego community for decades. I’m honored to call her my friend and mentor – and I’m so grateful to my colleagues in the House for passing my bill to rename the Rolando Post Office after her, in honor of her public service. This win is the result of a years-long, community-driven effort, with the support of Council President Sean Elo-Rivera and his office. Thank you, Congresswoman Davis, for all you’ve done for San Diego and all that you continue to do! Your kindness, selflessness, leadership, and service continue to be an inspiration to all of us.

My team and I are hiring paid spring interns in our San Diego and Washington, D.C. offices! This is a great opportunity for college students and recent graduates looking for hands-on congressional experience. For more information and to apply, visit my website.

Our child care infrastructure is hanging by a thread: too many parents can't find or pay for child care, and providers don't have enough pay, benefits, and support to do their incredibly important work. I'm doing everything I can to ensure every family has access to high-quality, affordable child care and early learning opportunities. Last week, I led more than half of the House Democratic caucus in a push to double child care funding in this year’s appropriations bills, and I'll keep fighting until families have the support they need.

Russia's unprovoked war in Ukraine has left one in three Ukrainian households without enough food – and left millions more around the world starving and suffering. So I’m glad the House is recognizing this urgent crisis and passed my resolution, condemning the use of hunger as a weapon of war and recognizing the effects of conflict on food security and famine.
