UAW Strike at UCSB Enters Week 4
As the UCs enter finals week, bargaining continues because the University has refused to make significant moves toward the UAW's position on important issues like wages, housing, childcare, and nonresident tuition. Thousands of workers around the state remain on strike and are prepared to withhold grades into winter break.
How can DSA help out?
- We can still join the picket line! This week, people can be found 8-5 every weekday by Henley Gate (the entrance to UCSB at the end of Highway 217, next to Goleta Beach). After this week, people will be gone for winter break, and there won't be a visible picket.
- Send a quick email to Governor Newsom urging him to do right by UC workers. Help swamp the governor's inbox. Go to bit.ly/UAWletter.
- Donations other than your time are also greatly appreciated. The picket line always needs food and water deliveries. There is also a mutual aid fund for UCSB workers that you can donate to at the Venmo account below.
- Write to UC administration to let them know that the world is watching and on the side of the workers. Some relevant people are:
- Spread the strike! Tell your friends and any other networks you have access to.
If you want more information and petitions, you can find them here.
This is a chance to support a local union in a strike that could be a huge win for education and workers broadly. It's unclear how long it will go, so now is the time to jump in and help!
