THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
To all the volunteers who stepped up over the past few months, we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts, for being part of the Michigan Democratic Party’s 2022 voter protection team.
You didn’t just defend our democracy -- you literally helped save it. Your work ensured that voters could cast their ballots and have them counted. Together, your combined efforts resulted in:
- Resolving nearly 4,000 voting-related issues before and on Election Day and helping voters cure over 800 rejected absentee ballots
- Responding to over 2,200 hotline calls
- Providing accurate voting information to hundreds of thousands of voters at events and through social media posts, literature, calls, and texts
-
Completing weekly check-ins and flagging pre-Election Day voting issues at close to 100 clerk’s offices throughout the 40-day absentee voting period
- Gathering information from and building trust with clerks in municipalities across the state
-
Sending over 1,200 trained challengers to polling places and absentee counting rooms across the state during two days of ballot preprocessing and on Election Day
Your presence and vigilance showed those intent on suppressing votes and subverting our democracy that we won’t allow them to succeed. Every action you took will inform future trainings and election strategy. Many of the flags you raised will be shared with clerks to aid their preparations for elections next year and beyond.
The need for voter protection never goes away. The Michigan voter protection team will continue to fight for voters’ rights. We welcome your partnership in the coming months and for what lies ahead in 2024 It was truly a pleasure to serve with you in this enterprise.
Thank you again for being part of our team. Democracy was on the ballot and democracy won!

A Partial Recount of Proposals 2 and 3
As you may have read in the news, earlier this week petitions for a partial state-wide recount of Proposals 2 and 3 were filed with the state. Both proposals passed by well over half a million votes, so a recount is a ridiculous waste of time and money that has zero chance of overturning the election results. It is simply another effort by extremist election deniers to perpetuate the Big Lie and further conspiracy theories about our elections.
The Board of State Canvassers will meet on Monday, December 5 at 2 pm to determine the procedures for the recount and which people/groups will be allowed to have challengers present. Hand recounts of ballots will be conducted in more than 40 counties, most likely starting on December 7 or 8. In some counties ballots in only a handful of precincts will be recounted, while in others many more precincts will be recounted. After the December 5 meeting, we will provide more information about how the recounts will work and how volunteers can sign up and get trained to be a challenger for the recount.
