During this time of confusion and escalation in the Middle East, I want to share what I know to be true:

1. The Constitution requires Congressional approval to initiate military interventions. Congress did not authorize a war with Iran.
2. Political leaders and American families on both sides of the political spectrum agree: we do not want to be involved in a war with Iran.
3. There's no disputing that Qasem Soleimani was a brutal military commander -- but U.S. acts of aggression may further destabilize the region, threaten what progress we've made in combating ISIS, damage our diplomatic relationships, and lead to war.

I am tired of these endless wars.

Right now, we have a generation of young people who haven't known a world without our country at war. We have a president acting on impulse and without a clear plan. But we still have an opportunity to do right by military families and service members by de-escalating the situation.

I am working alongside my colleagues in Congress to determine what is going on, and what needs to be done to protect our country, our troops, and our international alliances.

Jim
