Team – this past week the Democratic Party elected the most diverse House leadership in American history, ensuring our leaders represent what America truly embodies: an incredible diversity of gender, race, religion, and life experience.

I am proud to say that Congressman Hakeem Jeffries of New York was elected as the next minority leader and is the first African American to be elected to lead a congressional party. Congressman Pete Aguillar will succeed Jefferies as the Democratic Caucus Chair and Katherine Clarke of Massachusetts will serve as the Democratic Whip.

These highly respected and energetic Members of Congress have years of leadership experience, represent very different backgrounds, and demonstrate decades of work by women and people of color to ensure that America’s institutions drive social progress and accurately reflect the people.

America’s beauty is in its diversity.

The more voices we hear from, the more people have a seat at the table, and the more ideas we will have that will empower us to move forward.

Thanks to folks like yourself who continue to show up to the polls, the Democratic Party is the most diverse in American history, and our newly elected leadership embodies that.

I look forward to working with Rep. Jeffries, Rep. Clarke, and Rep. Aguilar in the new Congress, and continuing to build upon all the progress we made over the last two years for all Americans.
