Dear John,
The coming weeks kick off the beginning of legislative sessions in statehouses across the country -- and there's a lot at stake.
The transformative legislative shifts that came out of the 2018 midterm elections set the stage for the record-breaking amount of state policies that were enacted in 2019! (Read more in NIRH's End of Year Report [link removed]). The NIRH Action Fund is building on that momentum to strengthen our relationships with state advocates and elected leaders to cement more wins for reproductive freedom in 2020!
We're working with advocates to identify opportunities to advance proactive legislation, including in Virginia, where they can take advantage of their newly-elected pro-choice trifecta; Connecticut, where they're working to pass a bill addressing the deceptive practices of anti-abortion pregnancy centers; and New Jersey, where advocates are assessing new opportunities to expand and protect reproductive healthcare after expanding their Address Confidentiality Program last year. We are excited to continue supporting advocates in Massachusetts as they work to bring the ROE Act over the finish line.
John, this work is possible because voters insisted on electing officials who represent their values, and turned out to elect loud and proud supporters of abortion access. At the NIRH Action Fund, we know the importance of securing reproductive freedom, state by state.
We're so excited to get started -- thanks for being on our team!
Onward,
Brianna Twofoot
Chief Program Officer
NIRH & NIRH Action Fund
