Dear John,

On November 29th, the Senate voted in favor of final passage of the (Dis)Respect for Marriage Act to redefine marriage in federal law, without meaningful religious liberty protections, including those offered by Senator Lee's amendment. In the end, 12 Republicans joined Democrats to vote to advance the bill without protections. These 12 Republican senators were: Roy Blunt (Mo.), Richard Burr (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Susan Collins (Maine), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Rob Portman (Ohio), Mitt Romney (Utah), Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Thom Tillis (N.C.), and Todd Young (Ind.).

Now, the amended bill heads back to the House, where 47 Republicans supported a previous version in July. House members--especially these 47--need to hear from you, that you want them to do the right thing and oppose this bill. Some have come to regret their vote, and at least one--Rep. Scott Perry (PA)--has publicly repudiated it.

While you're at it, send a message to your senators, thanking those who stood up for children, families, and religious liberty, and telling those who voted against these interests of your disappointment.

Will you contact Delegate Norton now?

Tell them that this bill has far-reaching consequences, especially for children. Children have a natural right to their mother and father, but same-sex family structures deprive them of that right. This, in turn, will affect our society in a myriad of negative ways. As Katy Faust, author of Them Before Us, said in FRC's Pray Vote Stand broadcast this week, "Every major social ill that we are facing today is because this country, culturally and legally, is getting the 'family' wrong."

In addition to harming children, this bill also poses inevitable threats to religious liberty. The Senate bill would:

* further exacerbate already-existing attacks on religious liberty due to the legalization of same-sex marriage;
* make faith-based adoption and foster-care agencies a greater target for frivolous litigation, curtailing or ending their ability to help children find homes;
* threaten the tax-exempt status of adoption and foster care agencies and other vitally needed non-profit organizations, whether religious or secular; and
* tacitly vilify millions of Americans who believe in natural marriage by labeling that belief "sex discrimination," tantamount to racism.

Contact Delegate Norton now and urge them not to cave to the pressure and OPPOSE this effort to redefine marriage!

Members continue to be targeted by the Left, so they need to hear from you now more than ever.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at FRC Action
