D.C. Round Up

December 2nd

I hope each of you is having a wonderful holiday season. Congress is busier than ever with many votes before the Christmas holidays. Approaching our third week of session since the November 3rd election, we have seen numerous messaging bills oriented towards painting a narrative, rather than producing substantive policy. This is of course the run-up to the consideration of the last large vote we will have during this Congress.

I would also like to share a few of the meetings and events I had this week. I hope they provide you with some key insights into the work my team and I do on the Hill. Also attached is a video that details what Texas Republicans' priorities will be next year.

Serving Our Rural Communities

This week I met with the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals. Many of our constituents understand the hardships related to hospital resources and availability in rural areas. During emergencies, many Texans in our 17th Congressional District are subject to long wait times before medical personal can arrive. These situations are most often due to constraints that force hospitals to cover large geographic areas with a minimal amount of emergency responders. During my meeting with the Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals, we discussed what should be considered to alleviate those constraints. I hope soon to be able to pass policy that can provide solutions to our rural community's needs.

Maintaining American Interests

The United States' relationship with other countries is a tremendous responsibility to maintain. International relations not only affect our government, but also each individual. On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan. Formerly tied to the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan plays an important role in the Balance of Power surrounding Europe. As well, the nation has a significant influence on global supply chains. During our meeting, the Ambassador and I were able to discuss significant areas of overlap in policy priorities between both of our countries. I wish the best to our international friends.

Housing in Texas

On Thursday I attended and spoke during a full committee hearing on the House Financial Services Committee. With the time allotted for me, I chose to voice the concerns and issues many Texans have with the Housing and Development Department. I hope you'll take a couple of minutes to listen and learn what improvements can be made to better serve U.S. citizens.
