Nobody Tells You How Lonely It Is When Your Kid Acts Out
[[link removed]]
“When the principal called me a third time and informed me my son had recorded a
teacher on his phone and posted it to Snapchat, I slithered down my wall and
cried before going to get him,” says an anonymous writer today. “She explained
that while she really liked him and said, ‘He’s a good kid making bad
decisions,’ he was in serious danger of expulsion. I was at a loss for what to
do — and I told her that.” The experience was profoundly isolating and downright

useful lesson for all of us. Check it out.

It’s easy to get fixated on the “right” way to do the holidays: the perfect
manners, the perfect outfits, the strict procession of traditions. But here’s an
important perspective from Meg Raby: “So many of those ‘memorable holiday
experiences,’ whether that’s spending time building a gingerbread house or
watching a family member perform, can be stressful for those of us with a
different neurology — with an autistic brain.” She’s got a few words about the
best gift you can give the neurodivergent people in your life at the holidays.
It’s a nice reminder for all of us about what really matters.
