Dear John,
Next Friday, officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Council will hold the last public meeting of 2022. In March, it was DFPS that decided to carry out Gov. Abbott's unlawful directive and open investigations on 13 Texas families merely on the suspicion that their kids might be transgender. Since then, we’ve shown up to every single DFPS meeting to share the stories of these families.
We need you to join us in this fight and stop these senseless attacks once and for all.
Here are two acions you can take to support transgender kids and those who love them:
-
Share your story by submitting anonymous testimony: If you are a transgender youth, part of a family with transgender children, or an impacted professional who works with transgender youth (healthcare, providers, teachers) use this link to submit your testimony anonymously. Volunteers will read your testimony at the meeting on your behalf.
-
Volunteer to read testimony or fill a seat to pack the room: We need volunteers to attend the DFPS meeting in person and read the anonymous testimony to protect the identities of transgender children and their families from being targeted by DFPS.
Transgender people of all ages deserve to live their lives free from attacks for following best-practice medical guidance that has existed for decades. Allowing the radical right to attack the smallest among us is as despicable as it is cowardly. But today, together, we can put a stop to it.
Give the gift of showing up for trans kids and their families. Because no loving family should fear having their children ripped from their homes simply because of who they are.
Con esperanza,
Adri Pérez
