This week, DFP welcomed Danielle Deiseroth as our new Interim Executive Director! Danielle joined the Data for Progress team in 2020 and has built our climate and environmental polling practice into a critical resource for the climate movement.
Before joining Data for Progress, Danielle traveled the country as an aide on the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, and she began her career as a strategy consultant in Washington, D.C. A proud native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Danielle is a graduate of Columbia University, where she studied chemical and environmental engineering.
We’re incredibly excited to have Danielle at the helm as we continue Data for Progress’ polling work supporting legislation and candidates that will protect our planet and our democracy.

Here are some other highlights from DFP this week:
Ticketmaster and Live Nation got lost in translation and asked for too much.
After months of anticipation, a monopoly has once again ruined our lives. That is, Ticketmaster butchered the Taylor Swift Eras tour presale and our Taylor concert dreams depend on finding someone to hand over $76,000 for nosebleed seats. Does anyone know the going rate for feet pics at the moment?
We know everyone makes mistakes, but we can’t sit idly by while a corporation takes advantage of consumers through absurd fees and last-minute general sale cancellations!! Justice must be served!!
Live Nation-Ticketmaster, you in fact are the problem.
Since the 2010 merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster, they have controlled ([link removed]) 70% of the ticket and live entertainment venues market. That’s not the spirit of competition!! The game is rigged! Concert prices are too high! A new poll ([link removed]) by Data for Progress finds 71% of voters say they are concerned about the total cost of tickets, including 75% of Democrats, 67% of Independents, and 69% of Republicans.
In order to remedy this problem, the Justice Department has announced an investigation into Live Nation-Ticketmaster and 68% of voters are in favor of breaking up the monopoly. This includes Democrats by a +67-point margin, Independents by a +49-point margin, and Republicans by a +43-point margin.

So, it’s your move Merrick Garland, our dear friend. A few mistakes ago the Justice Department approved the Live Nation-Ticketmaster merger, but now you have a chance to shake it off and break them up so they never, ever, ever get back together.
We’ll see ourselves out.

Military commanders aren't lawyers.
Our constitution goes very hard on this whole “right to a fair trial” thing, but apparently it doesn’t apply to our service members. While sexual assault cases are typically prosecuted by lawyers, in the military justice system, commanders act as prosecutors in these cases.
It’s crucial that our service members feel they can comfortably come forward about sexual assault and that these cases are independent from the chain of command. If commanders continue to prosecute sexual assault cases, military members will live in fear of retaliation. Data for Progress finds ([link removed]) 62 percent of voters believe that military commanders should not prosecute sexual assault cases. This includes 73 percent of Democrats, 62 percent of Independents, and 50 percent of Republicans.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has proposed the Military Justice Improvement Act, which would replace military commanders with independent lawyers as the prosecutors of sexual assault in the military. Seventy-three percent of voters are in favor of replacing military commanders with independent lawyers in these cases, including 82 percent of Democrats, 72 percent of Independents, and 64 percent of Republicans.

Service members deserve to have someone with actual legal training prosecuting sexual assault cases. An independent lawyer would also help ensure that bias and potential retaliation is removed from these cases.

Republican Priorities, Wrapped

As you may or may not know, it is that most wonderful time of year where we all come together to share which songs we had on repeat for a frankly embarrassing amount of time and make fun of your friend who still listens to Drake: Spotify Wrapped season!
In the time leading up to the 2022 Midterm Elections, Republicans spent a lot of time telling voters what they would do if handed the Congressional reins in November. After hearing their pitch for a majority, voters resoundingly rejected the promises they campaigned on, dashing their hopes for control of Congress.
Our polling showed that voters overwhelmingly disapproved of key Republican legislative priorities. I guess they really put the MID in midterm elections.
