Advocating for Justice

What to Know: TPPF’s Chelsea Murphy, who leads our Right on Crime efforts in Florida, has been recognized as one of the state’s most effective advocates.

The TPPF Take: It’s a well-deserved honor.

“The case for smart criminal justice reform is clearer today than at any time in our past, with smart solutions being widely discussed by Florida lawmakers on both sides of the aisle,” Chelsea says. “Right on Crime is working to reduce crime, deliver justice to victims and safeguard taxpayers money.”

The Gig is Up

What to Know: California’s new regulations on “gig economy” workers such as Uber drivers is already costing jobs and livelihoods.

The TPPF Take: The new gig economy restrictions aren’t really about helping workers.

“There are two main beneficiaries to the California law: unions and trial attorneys,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Backers of the law contend it is needed to help workers in the gig economy unionize. Union money is a lifeblood of California politics. And so are donations from the state’s powerful trial bar.”

Not Netflix, Too

What to Know: Even watching Netflix—instead of driving to the theater—is making climate change worse, alarmists are claiming.

The TPPF Take: Who do climate alarmists want to take the fun out of everything?

“By blindly slamming Netflix for a high carbon footprint, they’re exposing a little-acknowledged truth: how truly dependent our Internet-driven economy is on affordable, reliable energy,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “Imagine an America where intermittent ‘green’ energy means our banks, schools, law enforcement officers, and doctors can’t depend on the Internet — let alone Netflix.”
