Weekly Wrap-Up: Fighting Earmarks

I hope that you and your family enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday.

There’s nothing like being home for Christmas, but it’s sure great to have a piece of home here in the Swamp as we finish out the 117^th Congress. This year’s Capitol Christmas tree is from the Pigsah National Forest in North Carolina. NC is one of the top states in the nation for growing and harvesting Christmas trees.

Sadly, Biden’s inflationary and Green New Deal environmental policies are sending Christmas tree prices through the roof this year. No industry is immune from the inflation and economic turmoil wrought by massive federal spending sprees.

The best gift that Congress can give the American people this Christmas is to stop spending trillions of dollars that we don’t have. As we gear up for yet another bloated, pork-filled omnibus spending bill, know that I will oppose any effort to further bankrupt our children and grandchildren.

Earmarks, Earmarks, Earmarks

158 of my Republican colleagues voted yesterday to restore earmarks, one of the most corrupt and wasteful practices in all of government.

Remember the Bridge to Nowhere? Earmarks effectively allow those pushing the Swamp’s agenda to buy votes by promising funds for local projects. It exemplifies the worst of Washington.

I voted against this practice, and I will take every avenue possible to re-impose a ban on earmarks.

Gearing Up for Investigations

Today, a former FBI official deeply involved in “domestic extremism” cases backed out of a scheduled transcribed interview with Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee.

But the Deep State is on notice. Republicans are prepared to send out subpoenas immediately. We will end this troubling pattern of unelected bureaucrats and security state officials getting away with these misdeeds. We will hold them accountable.

Now Hiring Spring Interns!

My office is now hiring Spring interns. All internships are paid and offer students the opportunity to gain valuable experience serving on Capitol Hill.

Interns will be asked to answer phones, conduct research for the Member and legislative staff, assist the communications team, attend hearings and briefings, and participate in educational opportunities.
