Dear john,
Capping unplugged oil and gas wells helps revitalize rural economies and prevent hazardous pollution, water contamination, and other safety hazards for our communities.
When we passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law we included $4.7 billion for orphaned well site plugging, remediation, and restoration. To date, more than $108 million has been allocated to Texas for capping orphaned oil wells and reclaiming abandoned mine lands.
Over the last 5 years, 348 orphaned wells have been plugged in TX-28 by the Texas Railroad Commission. I want to thank the commission for their commitment to eliminating legacy pollution in our state.
