Dear John,
The United States Postal Service is vital to keeping the Second District connected, and it's a government service that so many of us interact with every day. That’s why it’s so important to ensure Minnesotans have access to efficient, reliable service from their post offices – and this week, I was proud to cosponsor a bill aimed at helping to do just that.
Throughout this past year, I have heard from quite a few of my constituents about service levels at several district USPS facilities. Most recently, I requested information on issues raised in Lakeville. And this past summer, when I contacted the New Prague Post Office to see constituent concerns first-hand, I was denied entry and was unable to adequately assess the problems my constituents alerted me to. My bill, the Ensuring Oversight Access at the Postal Service Act, will prevent USPS from barring Members of Congress from accessing postal facilities for congressional oversight – and ensure that Members of Congress are able to see for themselves what type of support USPS and letter carriers may need. Especially with the holiday season upon us, I am proud to fight for a more efficient and effective Postal Service for all my constituents.
Here are some of the other highlights from this week:
Protecting Marriage Equality
This week, my colleagues in the Senate made history by passing the Respect for Marriage Act. I’m grateful to be part of a Congress that recognizes the need to enshrine marriage equality into law and ensure that families like mine will always be recognized under the law.
A visit from a friend and constituent
I’m so glad my friend Katie Slifko was able to meet with my staff in DC this week! Her late husband Cory was a South Saint Paul Police Officer – and I am proud to have worked closely with her to pass the Public Safety Officer Support Act earlier this year.
Connecting with my constituents
Thanks to everyone who tuned in to my virtual town hall live-stream – my week in isolation with COVID-19 edition – and a special thanks to Lakeville Police Chief Brad Paulson for serving as our moderator. Glad to be able to work remotely while I continue to recover.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
During my time in Congress, I’ve been proud to work with and alongside Dakota County Regional Chamber President, Maureen Scallen Failor. Maureen recently announced that she is stepping down, so I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for her partnership in working for Dakota County businesses. Thank you for your hard work on behalf of small businesses across the Second District!
I hope you all had a great week and stayed safe on the icy roads! Looking forward to catching up soon.
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
