2. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Tillis, Burr help pass same-sex marriage bill
"North Carolina U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis has been working on fellow Republicans to support the Respect for Marriage Act, and found success Tuesday as it passed the chamber, 61-36. North Carolinaâs senior senator, Richard Burr, was among the 12 Republicans who voted for it.
While the act does not require states to permit same-sex marriages, it does require that states recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. Tillis played a pivotal role in negotiating the finer points of the bill and generating Republican support."

3. NCGA'S BRODY: The Coming Republican Party Showdown
"Once again, our Republican US Senator, Thom Tillis, has created a âdisturbance in The Forceâ that has had many in the NC Republican Party looking at each other with astonishment and trepidation.
His support for the Inflation Reduction Act (which was nothing more than another deficit-busting borrow/spend scheme) followed immediately by his âstop the spendingâ rhetoric made many a Republican head spin in exasperation.
Now, his support for the 'Respect for Marriage Act', has created an issue that must be resolved at our next state Republican Party Convention. Basically, Senator Tillisâ action puts our state Republican Party in a predicament. His vocal support of the 'Respect for Marriage Act' along with his vote to move it forward in the Senate, in direct opposition to both the national and state Republican Party platforms, force the issue to the forefront.
DO WE, AT CONVENTION, VOTE TO AFFIRM THE LONGSTANDING PLATFORMâS ASSERTIONS ABOUT MARRIAGE AND SANCTION TILLIS OR VOTE TO CHANGE THE PLATFORM?"

4. THE FEDERALIST: The 'Respect For Marriage Act' Is An Exercise In Tyranny
âIf theyâre going to support this bill, though, do they have to pretend that weâre all too stupid to understand how it will work? Does Dan Sullivan, the second-worst U.S. senator from Alaska, who once supported a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage in the long-ago of 2014, really believe that the Respect for Marriage Act makes âimportant advancesâ in religious liberty?
Does Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who 10 years ago as speaker of the statehouse supported a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in his state, really think the anemic amendments he and other GOP senators offered to the bill will âadvance religious freedomâ and âage wellâ?â

Weekly Prayer: Life
LORD, we recognize that you are Sovereign over all creation. We recognize you made man from the dust, and in your mercy, you crowned creation with man and woman made in your image. What a wonder it is that you would bestow upon us this blessing and responsibility!
LORD, may we not take this blessing for granted. We pray that this great responsibility and dignity may motivate us to love You, our neighbors, and our families more. LORD, may we as a culture truly see and believe that children are a blessing from the LORDâborn or unborn; able or disabled. All children should have an opportunity to experience the liberty of life. LORD, make us your vehicle to change our culture into one that cherishes and protects life. Keep at the forefront of our minds our responsibilities to respect, cherish, and serve the youngest and oldest in our society.
Finally, LORD, we pray even further for our children. Across our state, country, and world, an entire generation of youth have seen their lives and education ruptured by the pandemic and its closing of schools. Father, as a result so many of these children are not only wounded by the quality of their education, but by a likely onslaught of mental illness brought about by social isolation. LORD, bring them hope and healing as only You can.
"At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, 'Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little onesâthose who believe in meâto stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.'" (Matthew 18:1-6)
Amen
