The Group Stage of 32 teams has ended. Saturday begins the Round of 16. The U.S. team is in, facing the Netherlands, runner up in 2010, 1978, and 1974, and 3rd place in 2014. The best U.S. finish was 3rd in 1930, the first FIFA World Cup.

National Miners Day: December 6

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day: December 7

According to the 2021 American Community Survey, of the 16.5 million veterans in the U.S., 4.0 million were 75 years and older, and 182,603 were WWII veterans.

Delaware 235th Anniversary of Statehood (1787): December 7

Delaware ratified the U.S. Constitution on December 7, 1787. It was the first of the original 13 colonies to join the Union and is thus known as ?The First State.?

Mississippi 205th Anniversary of Statehood (1817): December 10

Mississippi was admitted to the Union on December 10, 1817, as the 20th state, with generally the same boundary as the present state.
