This year, the American people rejected far-right extremism and anti-democratic conspiracy theories.

In what was supposed to be a “Red Wave” year, the American people elected candidates who will protect our fundamental rights rather than threaten them. We defended access to the ballot box, to reproductive health care, to marriage equality, and to other freedoms we hold dear.

I’m particularly proud that Democrats netted a pick up of two governorships this year and won critical races in swing states where governors will be on the frontlines of defending democracy. As chair of the Democratic Governors Association, I know that every Democrat we elected governor in 2022 is ready to serve the people of their state and work hard to deliver on the issues that matter most.

But our work doesn’t stop now. There are three gubernatorial races ahead of us in 2023 and another 11 in 2024.

Democrats won in 2022. I believe we can win in next year’s elections and in every gubernatorial race where we can compete.
