Tens of millions of Americans hoping for college debt forgiveness will have to wait until at least February. The Biden administration hoped the U.S. Supreme Court would give a lawsuit filed by six states the boot, but instead, the court says it would like to hear more about the complaint and has scheduled a hearing for February.

A new report from Greenpeace says we are only recycling 5% of the world’s plastics and that number is falling, not growing. Recycling centers say it is too difficult to separate the different types of plastics and that there is not much profit in plastic recycling. Greenpeace says a lot of the stuff you place in a recycling bin gets trashed despite your best efforts.

Deans at 10 top law schools say they are not going to jockey for position in the listing of the best universities anymore. Every year, colleges spend a lot of effort to get listed on the Best Colleges list published by U.S. News and World Report. But now, even some of the schools on top of the list say they are not going to play that game anymore because the list is built on unreliable data.

Almost a third of the nation’s hospice centers are now run by for-profit companies. ProPublica is investigating how these companies are shopping for patients who might not be near death. The investigation revealed how some doctors take payments to refer their patients to for-profit hospice care.
