Hi, Democrats have only one month left in the Congressional majority and time is running out to crack down on Amazon’s monopoly power. The majority of Americans want our representatives in Congress to regulate Big Tech,1 and the White House has called for an “ambitious” crackdown on Big Tech before the end of the year.2 Two important bills fighting Big Tech’s monopoly power are pending in Congress right now, but we’ve seen no action from Democratic leadership. We demand Majority Leader Schumer and Speaker Pelosi support this bipartisan legislation! The American Innovation and Choice Online Act and the Open App Markets Act are common sense, bipartisan bills. These bills would rein in the monopoly power of Amazon and other Big Tech companies by making it illegal for corporations to use their platforms to squash competitors and run small businesses into the ground. They’re a crucial first step toward protecting consumers, workers, and small businesses from Big Tech’s abuses. Big Tech has spent $100 million lobbying against the legislation. Are Schumer and Pelosi listening to corporate dollars over the needs of the American people? Both leaders have family ties to Big Tech: one of Schumer’s daughters works for Meta (Facebook) and another works for Amazon.3 Pelosi’s husband, a venture capitalist, has profited millions off his Big Tech trades—raising serious ethics concerns about insider trading in Congress.4 Schumer and Pelosi have an opportunity to protect American consumers and small businesses from the abuses of Big Tech. We need to make sure they do the right thing. Thanks for taking action, Sources:
