Follow NASN on Social   President's Message National Influenza Vaccination Week, Dec. 5-9, is a critical opportunity to remind students and their families that there’s still time to protect themselves and loved ones from the flu by getting their annual flu vaccine -- if they have not already. Currently, flu activity is elevated across the country, so this week will serve to remind people that there is still time to benefit from the first and most important action in preventing flu illness and potentially serious flu complications: get a flu vaccine. NASN has resources devoted to seasonal flu here, and you can see resources from the CDC to use in your schools here. Next week is also National Handwashing Awareness Week. When done properly, handwashing has the ability to prevent the spread of germs. The role of the school nurse is to inform school administrators, staff, and students on the impact of and importance of implementing good hand hygiene practices in helping to ensure health and safety in the school community. NASN has resources on teaching and reinforcing hand hygiene, including videos on proper technique, that you can use in your schools.
