Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and South Brooklyn   My friend... Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL President Biden failed to help strike a deal between the railroad industry and labor unions and instead dumped the responsibility on Congress' lap. A rail strike would further drive up energy and food prices, impact the availability of goods and cost the U.S. economy $2 billion every day. Yesterday, the House stepped in to avert a strike and I'm pleased the Senate will do the same to protect our economy and fix the mess Biden created. READ MORE I joined a bipartisan group of colleagues in warning President Biden of potential heating issues in the Northeast this winter due to a shortage in heating oil supplies. We're calling on President Biden and the U.S. Department of Energy to work with Congress to proactively address natural gas and diesel supply shortages in the Northeast, rising energy costs, and develop a plan to prevent rolling blackouts should the region experience frigid temperatures this winter. READ MORE I welcomed NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell to Washington, DC. We discussed the importance of keeping the current levels of counter-terrorism funding intact, along with my legislation to address criminal activity and funding I'm working to secure for police vehicles and equipment. Last year I secured nearly $3 million for the NYPD to purchase new forensic equipment, protective gear and expand its K9 unit and I'm looking forward to continuing to support our men and women in blue next Congress. READ MORE IN THE DISTRICT I joined the community in celebrating the grand opening of the New Dorp Friendship Club which was sadly destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. Thanks to our city colleagues and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation for fulfilling their promise to reopen for our seniors. I look forward to returning soon to call BINGO! I visited Panini Grill on Staten Island to help Chef Peter introduce a new panini to his menu - the "Malliotakis American Dream." With this panini and the "Malliotakis" Hero at Lioni's in Brooklyn, we've got two delicious sandwich spots on both sides of the bridge! Our American flag is a symbol of freedom and hope for so many around the world and in New York City. I'm so happy to have joined my local colleagues in replacing the flag outside of Ariemma's Italian Deli on Staten Island after a vandal destroyed one outside the small business. IN THE NEWS Malliotakis: Senate GOP Can’t Allow Any Spending Increases in Lame Duck Before House Officially Goes to GOP On Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Nicole Malliotakis called for Senate Republicans to hold the line to ensure that the lame-duck Congress only passes an extension of current funding levels so there are no increases in federal spending levels before Republicans take power in January. Malliotakis also stated that having a seat at the table on government funding will allow a GOP House majority to use the power of the purse to exert leverage over the Biden Administration to secure the border. WATCH Skippy’s hot dog truck back on the road as owner gets the boot from long-time home. First it was Sandy. Now it’s the city. Last week, the congresswoman sent a letter to DEP Commissioner Rohit T. Aggarwala. “Today, I write to urge you to expedite the process of finding one of Staten Island’s beloved small businesses, Skippy’s hot dog truck, a new permanent location and by presenting a list of alternative location options for the truck as soon as possible.” Malliotakis continued, “While we understand your agency’s reason for removing Skippy’s from the original spot due to concerns over potential damage to the recently completed Bluebelt project and traffic hazards, alternative locations must be given promptly to ensure this small business can continue to remain open to the public and operated efficiently.” READ Washington DC Office 417 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 (202) 225-3371 Staten Island Office 1911 Richmond Ave. Staten Island, NY 10314 (718) 568-2870 Brooklyn Office 7716 Third Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11209 (718) 306-1620   [link removed] Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) | 417 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by [email protected]
