Meetings of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) are some of the biggest dates in the environmental calendar and campaigners from EIA’s UK and US offices have just returned from Panama where they attended the 19th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP19) and declared it an overall win for wildlife! EIA pushed for support for proposals giving greater protection to threatened species and have produced a special summary to catch up on all the major decisions.
The UN’s CoP27 climate summit was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, in November and our busy Climate team was on the ground to press for meaningful action but, despite some important decisions, the overwhelming feeling was one of major disappointment.
Work to create a new Global Plastics Treaty began this week in Uruguay to tackle the threat of plastics pollution. In a special ‘What on Earth?’ podcast, our Ocean campaigners attending the talks discuss what to expect and what’s at stake for the planet.
