Yesterday, I had the honor of joining my Democratic colleagues in electing Rep. Hakeem Jeffries to succeed Nancy Pelosi as Democratic Leader. He's the first Black lawmaker to lead a party in Congress in U.S. history, and I was honored that Hakeem asked me personally to second his nomination.

This is a significant milestone – not just for Democrats – but for our country. Most importantly, though, Rep. Jeffries is an extraordinarily talented messenger of our values and a strong strategist who is beyond qualified to move our party and our nation forward.
