The One-Minute Meeting

We are a week and a half from what could be an economy-crippling railroad strike and something extraordinary has happened. For the second time in a week, members of Congress have found a way to agree on something and seem to be on the road to averting a strike even if the unions are not happy about it. President Biden, usually a union supporter, is pushing Congress to step in even if his union supporters don’t like the interference.

Charities are still counting up the results of “Giving Tuesday” but the 2022 trend is that there are fewer donors giving money to charities this year. Donations to food banks have taken a big hit, partly because people say they are struggling to pay for their own food much less pay somebody else’s.

Apartment complexes are using DNA tests to identify who is not picking up after their dogs. The DNA tests examine the dog's poo and trace it back to the pet. One of the leading companies doing this testing says business is booming because so many apartment dwellers have pets and the mess they leave behind is a leading cause of tenant complaints.

I want to introduce you to an app called What3Words, which some emergency responders say has the potential of saving lives. But not everyone likes this idea. The app is a way to find anybody, anywhere on the planet within a space about the size of a car or a bed. I will explain the app and link you to evidence that this could be useful whether you are in an emergency, trying to find a friend at a crowded mall, or finding your car in an airport parking lot.
